Dear Friends of CanLearn,
We hope this letter finds all of you safe and well. Thank you so much for your emails and phone calls. It has been touching. This is an unsettling time for all of us, and also an opportunity for CanLearn to help provide stability for our community at a time of great need. You need to know that CanLearn’s work continues, and in many ways, it is more important than ever. Families continue to need our help.
In mid-March, we closed our physical office location and moved as many services and programs as we could online. We are so thankful for the professionalism and agility of our team members. Many were piloting new delivery methods within a couple of days. The majority of what CanLearn provided before the current crisis continues through phone and video-conferencing, which is working remarkably well. In some cases, this new approach is making our services even more accessible to families. We are collaborating and sharing ideas with our existing partners and networks even more than before. We are stronger together.
CanLearn continues to offer family literacy programs, ADHD coaching, adult literacy tutoring, learning and behavioural consults, social-emotional programming, adult ADHD group, Calm Kids, Happy Families, and reading instruction for children.
We have been unable to continue our psycho-education testing for the time being as it must be delivered face-to-face, which cannot currently be done safely. Instead, we are offering families that are struggling with learning, literacy and attention challenges other services that may help in the short-term. We will resume our assessment services as soon as this program can be delivered safely.
While the physical delivery of our services has changed, and some of our staff are wearing new hats, we continue to support learning, literacy and attention. Due to our quick response and ingenuity, we have every intention of being here for Calgary as we have been for the past 40 years. Please check our website (www.canlearnsociety.ca) for program information and our weekly blogs.
Our Board of Directors are skilled stewards and have been working with the Senior Leadership team at CanLearn to weather this storm and emerge stronger than ever. We’d like to thank them for so generously providing advice, support, opportunities and information., It means so much to all of us at CanLearn.
We were delighted to be once again selected for Birdies for Kids matching grants, which makes our donors’ gifts go 15-50% farther. If you are in a position to help, we appreciate it. Please follow this link to donate.
Friends, thank you for your support of our work and for continuing to be an important part of CanLearn. We could not have done this without you by our side.
Your partners in unlocking potential,
