How is your wall?

Have you added another brick to your wall? You know the wall – the one that keeps you from doing what you need or want to do?

Maybe you have built your wall with a negative thought brick, a boredom brick, an overwhelmed brick, a bad habits brick, or a distraction brick.

No matter how many bricks you have used or how high your wall is, you can develop a plan to break down that wall or add a door. You can do this by building your toolbox and filling it with resources and new abilities.

Begin building your toolbox by adding in these tools and abilities:

  • The first step that you want to think about is making sure that you’re taking care of yourself. Are you getting the sleep you need? Are you eating well? Are you getting exercise?
  • Slow down your brain by practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness can be something as simple as using all five of your senses. Five things you can see, four things you can hear, three things you can feel, two things you can smell and one thing you can taste. Practice breathing using the Foursquare breathing method. Whatever you do, it’s part of managing your stress limit as well as getting in touch with the feelings in your body and paying attention to how you’re doing.
  • Show compassion to yourself! Face it. If this were easy, you would be doing it. Beating yourself up doesn’t help, but working with your brain and not against it does. You can work with your brain by experimenting and playing with different resources and new abilities that might work for you.
